In Relation

We’re just ghosts in the places we live
And we wonder about the shadows dancing
Our walls move and breathe
We just want to feel something

And I
Can’t believe how quickly you gave up
How quickly you’ve thrown up
White flag of surrender
I thought you were stronger
I thought they were stronger

We’re strangers in a familiar land
Something has broken but not what was planned
We’re strangers in a familiar land
Hearts on the table to be examined

And I
Can’t believe how quickly you gave up
How slowly you’ve shown up
To avoid is to surrender
I thought you were stronger
I thought she was stronger

Echoes of the past linger on your lips
A martyr’s complex hangs upon your kiss
Your greedy hands grasping at my hips
Drunk love making anesthetic soon to be forgotten

And I
Don’t know why I haven’t given up
My personal anesthetic has not sufficed
To avoid the temptation of personal surrender
Forgetting lovers and friends who’ve left in the dark
I’ve found I’m stronger
Convinced myself I’m stronger
